The Evanston Police Department is investigating several incidents of disorderly conduct after small pride flags with “pride death” written on them were found in three places across the city.

The flags were found in the 1700 and 2100 block of Central Street as well as the 600 block of Dempster Street, according to a news release. The incidents happened in the early morning of Thursday, July 27 and were not placed outside prominent LGBTQ+ businesses or establishments.

Commander Ryan Glew with the Evanston Police Department said while the incidents are concerning, Evanston police did not find any specific threats to those in the LGBTQ+ community.

“The possibility of a hate crime will be one of the central parts of our investigation,” Glew said.

Evanston police encourage anyone with information to reach out to the department.
