Harvey Furniture Plus welcomes U-Haul

U-Haul Co. of Illinois Inc. announced that Harvey Furniture Plus signed on as a U-Haul neighborhood dealer to serve the Harvey community.

Harvey Furniture Plus at 16330 Halsted St. will offer services like U-Haul trucks, trailers, towing equipment, support rental items and in-store pickup for boxes.

Harvey Furniture Plus owner Mohammad Jbara said he was proud to team with the company.

Normal business hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday.

New businesses get OK in Worth

Worth trustees in June approved licenses for three new businesses in the village.

An ordinance was approved for a special use to establish and operate an insurance mortgage office at 6850 W. 111th St. Owner Yunus Hussem will open Traust Financial at the location.

A license was granted for CM Tobacco, 6611 W. 111th St. Owner Rakan Alqheiei said they will be selling tobacco products.

A license was granted to owner Fatoumata Konte, who will open Nourah Hairbraiding, 11312 S. Harlem Ave. She will be selling beauty supplies and women’s wigs.

New York group buys Louis Joliet Mall

A New York-based realty group that had previously acquired shopping malls in Matteson, Calumet City, Bourbonnais and the Southwest Side of Chicago expanded its Southland footprint with the recent purchase of Louis Joliet Mall in Joliet.

Namdar Realty of Long Island ponied up $31.4 million for the mall, which has lost two of its anchor stores in recent years but still has a healthy tenant base.

Namdar got its start in 1999 and in recent years had acquired Ford City Mall in Chicago, River Oaks Mall in Calumet City, Northfield Square in Bourbonnais and Matteson Town Center in Matteson.

The Joliet property includes more than 125 acres and about 940,000 square feet of leasable space near Route 30 and Interstate 55 exit for Joliet and Plainfield.

IDOT to repair Blue Island bridge

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that repairs to the bridge carrying 127th Street over Metra’s Rock Island District Line, in Blue Island is scheduled to begin Monday.

To complete the work, 127th Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Irving and Winchester avenues.

The project, which consists of joint replacement, pier repairs and resealing the bridge deck is anticipated to be completed in November.

Motorists can expect delays, IDOT said.

Cook County approves projects

The Cook County Board of Commissioners has approved funding for transportation-related projects for the County’s Department of Transportation and Highways in southwest suburban Stickney and Forest View.

The projects are designed to boost economic development, build up regional transportation and improve the quality of life throughout Cook County.

The first project provides $32 million for reconstruction of the Central Avenue bridge over the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal.

Another $4.7 million was allocated for construction management services.

An additional $1.7 million was approved to replace sidewalk curb ramps along roadways throughout the county.

No timetables were announced for either projects.

Dollar General now open in Dyer

Tennessee-based Dollar General announced its store at 15177 W. 101st Avenue in Dyer is now open.

The Dollar General in Dyer is expected to employ approximately six to 10 people.

To commemorate the opening of the new Dyer location, Dollar General plans to donate 100 new books to a nearby elementary school.
