West Aurora School District 129 has appointed four new administrators, including an educator who is familiar with the district.

Anita Conklin, who most recently served as an early childhood special education coordinator for the district, will assume the duties of assistant principal at the Early Learning Academy.

 As a childhood special education coordinator for the past three years, Conklin was responsible for enrollment of incoming students, arranging transportation, developing professional learning for teachers and facilitating teacher learning meetings, district officials said.

  For five years, Conklin was an early childhood special education teacher in the district. Prior to coming to District 129, Conklin served eight years as a substitute teacher, four years as a parents’ day-out director and church nursery coordinator as well as a kindergarten teacher for a year at Wasco Elementary in St. Charles School District 303.

 Britta Dahlberg, who has worked as a physical education and mathematics teacher at Golder College Prep in Chicago for the past four years, has been appointed to serve as a dean of students at West Aurora High School.

 She will be responsible for leading the “Tradition House,” a subunit of the school that supports students.

 Golder College Prep is a charter high school in Chicago. In addition to her responsibilities in the classroom, Dahlberg served on multiple curriculum design teams and delivered various strength, conditioning and wellness-related extracurricular opportunities for students, West Aurora officials said.

.Dahlberg previously taught at the middle school level, for three years at Jane Addams Middle School in Bolingbrook and six years at Alaine Locke Charter School in Chicago.

Dahlberg began her educational career teaching students in grades six to eight at Laura Ward Elementary School in Chicago. 

Lauren Lihosit has been appointed as a dean of students at West Aurora High School as well. She will be responsible for leading the “Character House,” another subunit of the school that supports students. 

Lihosit brings a year of related experience to her role, having served as dean of students at Yorkville Middle School during the past school year.

In addition to her duties as dean, she was responsible for developing whole-staff professional learning focused on student interventions, district officials said.

Lihosit’s teaching experience includes having taught English language arts and social studies for seven years at Waldo Middle School in East Aurora School District 131. She also coordinated and supervised extracurricular activities at Waldo and participated in an administrative internship across several schools in the district.

Lihosit began her educational career as a teacher’s assistant in Benjamin School District 25 in West Chicago.

Peter Martino was appointed assistant principal of teaching and learning at Jewel Middle School.

Martino has worked in West Chicago School District 94 for the past 20 years, with 15 of those years as assistant principal at West Chicago High School. His responsibilities included mentoring and evaluating teachers, managing facility usage and overseeing student discipline and attendance.

Before serving as assistant principal, Martino was the dean of students and director of student activities for three years at the high school. Martino also spent two years as a coordinator at the district’s Academic Skills Center, where he operated and managed an educational support program for at-risk students aimed at improving success rates in core academic areas, West Aurora officials said.

Martino began his educational career as an English teacher at Franklin Middle School in Wheaton School District 200, a position he held for four years.
