A small pool of candidates were interviewed Thursday to fill the role of acting superintendent of Hinsdale Township High School District 86, just two weeks after the newly appointed Assistant Superintendent Jason Markey was voted in as interim.
“The goal is to finish this process and make a final selection by the end of the month,” Chris Jasculca, director of communications for District 86 said in an email responding to questions from the Pioneer Press. “Mr. Markey will continue serving as the acting superintendent until the search for an interim is complete.”
Markey began his tenure as assistant superintendent on July 1, following his predecessor, Christopher Covino’s departure to work as LaGrange District 102 superintendent.
The need for an interim began on May 16, when Superintendent Tammy Prentiss went on a sudden and extended leave of absence. On July 26, the school board, without giving public notice ahead of time, mutually agreed to amend Prentiss’s contract, effectively severing ties while paying for the remainder of her $277,000 salary.
Under the amended contract, Prentiss will remain employed as an administrator until March 31. The district declined to give further comment on Prentiss’s status.
