Maine Township High School District 207 is set to purchase three acres of land known as Cline Farm, which is very close to Maine South High School, the district announced last week.

District 207 bought the land, located at 711 South Hamlin Avenue, Park Ridge, for $3.2 million, per a district press release. Superintendent Ken Wallace said the land would help the district expand its educational offerings related to the environment and climate issues.

The school district will collaborate with the Park Ridge Park District to optimize its use of the land, per the news release.

In an email to Pioneer Press, Park Ridge Park District spokesperson Margaret Holler said the park district saw the buy as a “win-win” for both governments and Park Ridge overall and said officials hadn’t yet settled on a specific use for the land.

“Once we have an idea of what is available for us, the Park District may explore recreational programming opportunities to be held on the site, but this would be in addition to and separate from the educational programming the School District is exploring for their students,” Holler said.

However, Holler said, the Park District would wait on determining how it might use the land so that the school district could make its plans first.

District 207 is currently in a purchase agreement with land owner Violet Koenig, the news release stated, and will take the next two months to do due diligence and discuss possible lease arrangements with the Park District.
