Palos Park installs bike fix-it station
Bikers traveling on the Cal-Sag Trail in Palos Park who experience a flat tire or mechanical breakdown can now try to make repairs on the trail thanks to a new bike Fix-It Station recently installed by the village of Palos Park.
The Fix-It Station is located near the Palos Park 86th Avenue Cal-Sag Trailhead just north of the parking lot on the concrete slab next to the park bench.
Bike riders will find the necessary tools to try to get their bike back on the road.
The station is equipped with an air pump, wrench, screwdrivers and anything else needed to adjust a gear or change a tire.
Installing such stations is a growing trend in areas frequented by bicycle riders, such as the Cal-Sag Trail.

Bridgeview approves gas station
Bridgeview has approved plans for Oklahoma-based QuikTrip to build a new gas station and convenience store between 75th and 74th streets along Harlem Avenue. It will be the company’s first store in the Chicago area. It will be kitty-corner from a similar gas station complex operated by Pilot Flying J, which opened in 2015.
Tax incentives are part of the deal. A motor fuel tax credit would sunset when $1.75 million in motor fuel taxes are generated or five years go by, whichever comes first. According to the village, taking inflation into account, the $1.75 million target may be hit around the third year of business. Overnight parking will not be allowed.
The village will sell the company two lots for the gas station for $100,000. Bridgeview business consultant Mike Thiessen said the two fueling centers would not be competitive.
“We see them as being complementary to each other rather than competitive,” he said. “One is for southbound traffic and one is for northbound traffic.” He said there has been an increase in traffic on Harlem because of nearby distribution developments and he said an ongoing Federal Express development will add even more.
QuikTrip was founded in 1958. The company has more than 900 stores in 14 states.
