
A 22-year-old Elgin man died Sunday after being shot in the chest in the 200 block of Aldine in Elgin, officials said.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m., with police arriving to find Rayquan Smith critically injured with a gunshot wound, an Elgin police report said. Smith was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Hosital in Elgin, where he died about two hours later, according to the Kane County Coroner’s Office.
No arrest has been made in the case. Police described it as an “isolated” incident that poses no threat to the public.
No information was provided on what might have prompted the shooting, how many people might have been involved or specifically where it occurred.
There have been 26 gunshot incidents in Elgin since the beginning of the year, with eight involving a person being injured and 11 resulting in property damage, according to data on the Elgin Police Department’s online crime dashboard.
