Barraco’s opens in former Traverso’s

Orland Park-area residents were devastated at the end of 2021 when Traverso’s suddenly closed its popular Orland Park restaurant that had been open for almost 50 years.

They said a second Traverso’s location in Naperville would remain open.

Then came word that Barraco’s, an Italian food chain based at 3701 W. 95th St. in Evergreen Park, announced it had bought the building and would be moving in sometime this year.

Barraco’s finally opened earlier this month at 15601 S. Harlem Ave., which it dubbed Barraco’s 156. They also operate another Barraco’s at 18040 S. Wolf Road, in Orland Park.

The official ribbon cutting took place on Monday.

Barraco’s was founded in 1980 and now has locations in Evergreen Park, Crestwood, Orland Park, Burbank, and Chicago’s Beverly neighborhood. There’s another location at 3047 W. 111th St. in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood that has an event center for banquets and weddings across the street at 3124 W. 111th St. They also operate the Vineyard Banquet Hall at 2121 W. 95th St., and have a food truck.

The chain is known for its famous thin crust pizza, pasta, steak and chicken dinners and sandwiches.

All of the suburban locations have late-night hours but the Evergreen Park location is open 24 hours.

The new Orland Park location is open from 10 a.m. to midnight daily. It offers dine-in, carry out and delivery. There is a sports bar as well as a banquet and party room. Barraco’s offers catering and school lunch programs.

The opening was set for Wednesday, July 5, but the company delayed it until July 12.

The company was founded in 1995 by Aaron Kennedy and serves a variety of international and American noodle dishes in addition to soups and salads.

Advantage Chevy holds grand opening in Bridgeview

Advantage Chevy took over the former Hawk dealership in Bridgeview two years ago, but did not hold its grand opening until last week.

Jason Roberts is the general manager of the dealership at 8200 S. Harlem Ave.

Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce and Industry officials along with elected officials including Bridgeview Mayor Steve Landek and state Sen. Mike Porfirio were among those who helped cut the ribbon.

Peach Stop coming to south suburbs

Tree-Ripe Fruit Co. announced it will making two Peach Stops in July in the south suburbs.

This family-owned business has brought the best in fruits, nuts, berries and citrus to the Midwest since 1990.

Tree-Ripe Fruit Co. said it will continue this year despite peach shortages due to a late frost across the South during growing season.

“Frosts across Georgia and the south took out about 90% of the peach crops this year, which will likely make peaches hard to come by even in grocery stores this season,” said owner Tiernan Paine.

“We are blessed to have a such wonderful partnership with our grower, Pearson Farm, who have exclusively committed to send us nearly all of their remaining crop, which still amounts to millions of peaches, ensuring that our loyal customers may be the only ones in the Midwest to get high-quality Georgia peaches this summer.”

The company will offer Georgia peaches, Georgia pecans, New Mexico pistachios and Michigan blueberries.

The Peach Stop will be at the Tinley Park Menards from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, July 7, and at the Lockport VFW Post 5788 the same day from 3-4:30 p.m.
