A Chicago man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting someone in Aurora just two days after he was released from prison, officials said.
Joseph E. Baker Jr., 40, of the 4200 block of West Carroll Avenue, agreed to the sentence in exchange for a guilty plea to criminal sexual assault, officials with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
On Aug. 20, 2021, the victim gave Baker a ride from a home in Chicago to his mother’s home in Aurora, prosecutors said. During the trip, Baker asked the victim if she was interested in engaging in sexual acts with him and she declined, according to the news release.
The victim had known Baker since she was a young child, officials said.
When they arrived at Baker’s mother’s home, Baker locked the victim in a room, refused to allow her to leave and sexually assaulted her, according to the release.
Baker had just been released from prison after he was convicted in 2012 of criminal sexual assault of a minor. He served a four-and-a-half-year prison sentence, but then violated the terms of his parole repeatedly and was returned to prison multiple times, officials said.
Baker must serve at least 85% of his new sentence, officials said.
