A Naperville man was arrested on charges he failed to turn in two firearms following the revocation of his Firearm Owner ID card and concealed carry license by the Illinois State Police, officials said.

Naperville police confiscated the handguns Thursday from Gerald Foxx Jr., 42, of the 400 block of Brad Court, and charged him with two counts of felony possession of a firearm, a police department news release said.

State police notified Naperville police in late May that Foxx’s FOID card and concealed carry license had been revoked earlier in the month but Foxx failed to surrender the card, license or weapons, the release said. State law requires the items be turned in within 48 hours of notification.

In addition to the gun possession charge, Foxx also was charged with two counts of failure to surrender a FOID Card and/or failure to complete a firearm disposition record and one count of possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card, all of which are class A misdemenaors.

No information was provided as to why Foxx’s FOID card and concealed carry license were revoked.

“All too often in this country, we’ve seen cases where people who should not have been in possession of firearms have committed acts of violence,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in the release.

“I can’t commend our Strategic Response Unit enough for their proactive work going after these individuals and taking firearms out of the hands of those who shouldn’t have them.”
