Seven residents were displaced from their homes Saturday afternoon in Aurora after a fire broke out in a four-unit townhouse building, Aurora Fire Department officials said in a press release.

Firefighters responded around 4:30 p.m. to a townhouse complex on the 1800 block of Carnation Court after receiving multiple 911 calls.

Heavy fire was showing from one unit in a two-story, four-townhome building, and crews began deploying hose lines while searching for victims inside, officials said. No residents were found inside, but firefighters rescued two cats.

Crews remained on the scene for two hours, extinguishing the fire and checking for any fire extension, according to the release.

The building was deemed uninhabitable. An adjacent townhouse building sustained exterior heat damage during the fire, officials said.

Victim Services was called the aid the displaced residents, according to the release. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
