
West Aurora School District 129 has hired three new administrators for the new school year to begin in August.
The appointments are Kelly Person as principal of Hope D. Wall School, David Aguilar as English Learner Curriculum coordinator for grades six to 12 and Trevor Huisinga as assistant principal of Greenman Elementary School.
Person has served as assistant principal of West Aurora School District’s Early Learning Academy for the past eight years. Hope Wall is a special education school that serves approximately 175 students from both West Aurora and East Aurora school districts.
Prior to her time as assistant principal at the Early Learning Academy, Person spent one year as the district’s early childhood special education coordinator. Her responsibilities in that role included the placement of early childhood special education students within the West Aurora and East Aurora school districts.
Person began her career in education as an early childhood special education teacher in Kaneland School District 302 at Blackberry Creek Elementary School, a role she held for 10 years.
Person holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in educational leadership.
Aguilar currently is a dean of students at West Aurora High School, where he is responsible for student support programs. Aguilar previously was a dean of freshmen students at Larkin High School in Elgin Area School District U-46.
Aguilar previously served six years as a history teacher and foreign language facilitator at East Aurora High School. He served as an adjunct instructor at both Waubonsee Community College and North Central College as well.
He has a bachelor’s degree in history from Northeastern Illinois University, a master’s degree in teaching and learning from the University of St. Francis and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Aurora University.
Huisinga currently serves as assistant principal of Rollins Elementary School in East Aurora School District 131, a position he has held for the past four years. He was a dean of students at East Aurora High School as well.
He previously was a second- and fourth-grade teacher, as well as a para educator in Elgin Area School District U-46. He coached baseball at South Elgin High School for nearly a decade.
Huisinga holds a bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports and tourism from the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in elementary education from National Louis University and a master’s degree in educational administration from Aurora University.
