Glenview police on Tuesday were continuing a “death investigation” after a 16-year-old boy found injured near the Union Pacific railroad tracks in the north suburb on Monday later died of his injuries, authorities said Tuesday.
And police did not say if the boy was hit by a train or if foul play is suspected.
“We don’t know and we have not released if he was hit by the train,” Sgt. Joel Detloff said Tuesday. “He was located near the tracks. All options are on the table right now.”
On May 8 shortly after 6 p.m. Glenview police responded to the Union Pacific railroad tracks, near the 1000 block of Milwaukee Avenue, on a report of an injured male subject, police said in a release. They said Glenview Fire Department personnel transported the 16-year-old male subject to Lutheran General Hospital where he was “pronounced deceased.”
If anyone has information regarding the investigation, please contact the Glenview Police Tip Line at 847-901-6055, the release said.
“We do not know if he was struck by a train,” Detloff said. “We don’t know that a train is involved. We do know the railway tracks are where he was located but we do not know any other information at this time.” He also said the investigation into the boy’s death could “take some time.”
“We have to see if we can gather up some witnesses and or people he may have been with,” said Detloff. “Talk to family members and then inevitably wait for the Medical Examiners autopsy as well.”
