Ricky Martin will be the guest of honor at a fundraiser for the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture in Chicago, the museum announced late Thursday.
Martin, he of “Livin’ la Vida Loca,” will attend the 10th Raices Gala and receive the National Ceiba Award. The award celebrates the heritage and contributions of the Puerto Rican community in the United States; past winners include Lin-Manuel Miranda and Rita Moreno.
The Raices Gala is the largest fundraising event of the year for the museum, located at 3015 W. Division St. in Humboldt Park. Along with his acting and music career, Martin is the founder of a foundation in his name that supports the LGBTQ+ community. His aforementioned single, from his self-titled 1999 album, is regarded as the launch of the “Latin explosion” in popular music in the United States.
The 2023 gala will be Sept. 14; tickets and more information to come at nmprac.org
