Tinley Park’s outdoor music theater between Oak Park and Ridgeland avenues at 191st Street is getting a new name — again.

The venue started out as the World Music Theatre when it opened in 1990. Since then, it has been called the New World Music Theatre, Tweeter Center, First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre and, most recently, Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

As of Tuesday, it has a new name: Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre. Financial details behind the renaming were not disclosed.

Among the acts scheduled for this season at the theater are Shania Twain, Pentatonix, Snoop Dogg, Foreigner and Eric Church.

“Credit Union 1 is excited to unveil the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park,” said Todd Gunderson, president and CEO of Credit Union 1. “The venue is a fantastic community hub for all of Chicagoland and builds on our partnerships with University of Notre Dame Athletics and University of Illinois Chicago to support the spaces and activities that bring people together and joy to members’ lives.”

“We are amidst a historic time in live music as fans everywhere continue prioritizing concerts to connect and make lasting memories,” said Andy Peikon, a senior vice president with Live Nation. “We’re thrilled the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre will be at the forefront of unforgettable live music moments for fans across the greater Chicago area with every show.”

The venue can hold up to 28,000 spectators in 17,000 lawn seats and 11,000 reserved seats. Over the past 30 years, the amphitheater has hosted acts such as Paul McCartney, Elton John as well as a memorable visit by the Grateful Dead early on in its incarnation as the World Music Theatre.

The 2023 season will open with Janet Jackson on May 27.
