An employee of a document destruction warehouse on Aurora’s North Side suffered minor injuries after a fire broke out at the facility Monday afternoon, officials said.

The worker was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and released, Aurora Fire Department officials said in a news release Tuesday.

Firefighters were called to the 700 block of North Farnsworth Avenue around 3:30 p.m. after several people reported smoke coming from the roof of the warehouse and an employee called 911, officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the large manufacturing facility with heavy fire and smoke showing from the roof, according to the news release.

Crews found fire on the second level in a dryer unit. The fire had extended through the ventilation system and spread to the roof, officials said.

Around 28 firefighters were brought to the scene and all employees were able to evacuate safely, officials said.

It took around 20 minutes to bring the fire under control and firefighters remained on the scene for around two hours to check for hot spots, according to the release.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The business was allowed to resume operations after the fire, according to officials.
