player ready...State police said Monday they are investigating the shooting death of a man from Gary, Indiana, allegedly by a police officer outside a Dolton home.
The shooting took place early Friday outside a home in the 600 block of East 144th Place, according to state police.
Dolton police responded to a call at the home and found a man with a gun who refused an officer’s orders to drop the firearm, according to police. It was not immediately clear if the man had threatened the officer with the gun.
The man who was shot was identified by the Cook County medical examiner’s office as Timothy McDaniel Hardy, of the 1100 block of Connecticut Street, Gary.
He was pronounced dead shortly after 6 a.m. Friday at Franciscan Health Hospital in Olympia Fields, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner’s office.
State police said they were notified at about 6 a.m. Friday by Dolton police to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
State police said members of its Public Integrity Task Force responded but the department declined additional comment on the investigation.
News of the officer-involved shooting comes as a news conference is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday outside the Dolton police station regarding another shooting death involving Dolton police.
The family of 19-year-old Alexis Wilson has a lawsuit pending in connection with the Homewood woman’s death. She was fatally shot by a Dolton officer July 27, 2021 during an altercation in a restaurant drive-thru in the 600 block of Sibley Boulevard, according to authorities.
The family filed a civil rights lawsuit that accuses Dolton police of causing Wilson’s death through the use of excessive force without justification.
The Wednesday news conference is also regarding the death of 29-year-old Darius Wilson, who died while in custody of Dolton police in October 2022.
Separate from the Dolton shooting, the medical examiner’s office has reported the homicide of 18-year-old Devin Barksdale, of the 700 block of East 144th Street, Dolton. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at 4:43 a.m. Saturday in the 13700 block of South Indiana Avenue, Riverdale, according to the medical examiner.
His death was ruled a homicide, but police did not provide additional information.
