The cubs, all males, were born at the zoo Jan. 9 but have stayed behind the scenes, zoo officials said, with minimal human intervention. The 3-month-old cubs’ names are Pesho, Sidai and Lomelok; their parents are mother Zari and father Jabari. They’ll be on view to the public and exploring their habitat, weather and their own moods permitting, beginning Saturday.
Zari and Jabari had their first offspring, Pilipili, last March. Their pride at Lincoln Park Zoo also includes lion aunts Hasira and Cleo.
The Pepper Family Wildlife Center opened in 2021, a $41 million renovation, update and expansion for the zoo’s lion house that includes multiple outdoor spaces and vertical levels for its feline residents, as well as a viewing tunnel for visitors.
