
Providence Catholic wins big at IHSA solo and ensemble competition
Providence Catholic music students earned 45 superior awards (1st place medals) and three perfect scores for 18 performances at this year’s IHSA Solo and Ensemble Competition in March.
“This is an exceptional accomplishment for our student musicians,” said Stacy Eckert, director of choirs, liturgical music and theatre at Providence Catholic. “I am so very proud of their work ethic and performance abilities. They did a wonderful job and represented Providence Catholic well.”
Superior solos included, Amelia Connors (soprano/perfect score), Meghan Connelly (trumpet), Kalina Gandurski (Eb alto sax), William Garrison (marimba), Anna Gleason (tuba), Addison Gosslin (soprano), Cassidy Lloyd (soprano), Celia Minonne (Bb clarinet), Tyler Santry (French horn), Cecilia Santschi (soprano), Lillie Scherf (Bb clarinet) Paige Shepherd (mezzo-soprano) and Elise Stoub (soprano)

Lockport’s Bresnahan and Chicago’s Boyd join Omicron Delta Kappa
Omicron Delta Kappa, the National Leadership Honor Society, welcomed 152 new initiates from 10 universities in February 2023. The initiates included Lockport’s Reilly Bresnahan (Purdue University) and Chicago’s Molly Boyd (Flagler College).
Orland Park’s Kenes inducted into Mortar Board at Nebraska
Elizabeth Kenes of Orland Park was inducted into Mortar Board at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln during the annual Ivy Day ceremonies on April 1.
The Ivy Day event recognizes outstanding contributions of students selected to serve in the two senior honorary organizations, as well as the achievements of current members and notable underclassmen and seniors.
Kenes is an actuarial science and computer science major at the university.
Orland Park’s Hart participating in Alabama cooperative ed program
University of Alabama student James Hart of Orland Park is participating in the university’s cooperative education program during the spring 2023 semester. Hart is working for Ulliman Schutte Construction, LLC.
