Three currently-serving Lincolnwood village board trustees earned higher vote percentages in the April 4 election, based on unofficial Cook County results, and have claimed victory.
Incumbents Atour Sargon and Craig Klatzco, who had previously been elected, and Chris Martel, who had been appointed, sought fresh terms on the Lincolnwood board. They earned higher numbers of votes than challengers Faye Abushaban and Snezana Markovic.
Martel topped the pack with 25.19% of the vote, followed by Sargon, who had 24.96%, and Klatzco with 24.2%, as residents were asked to vote for three candidates.
Sargon, Klatzco and Martel were all supported by Alliance for Lincolnwood, the village’s dominant political party.
They issued a collective statement after the election.
“All of us in the Alliance for Lincolnwood are grateful for the overwhelming support our candidates received in this election,” the statement read. “Though we come from different backgrounds and perspectives, we are united in our desire to move Lincolnwood forward, together. Our trustees have been a critical part of Lincolnwood’s success and our team is looking forward to continuing its work in the years ahead. Thank you, again, to the voters of Lincolnwood.”
Sargon was first elected to the village board in 2019, Klatzco was seeking his third (non-consecutive) term and Martel was running for his first full term after being appointed to the board in 2021 to fill the vacancy created when Jesal Patel was elected mayor.
Abushaban finished with 12.95% and Markovic had 12.7%.
“It was an opportunity to introduce myself to the community and an experience needed for the future,” Abushaban wrote in an e-mail.
Markovic did not respond to a request for a comment.
