A Chicago man was charged with multiple weapons and drug felonies in Evanston last weekend after he fled from officers during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Terrance Hogan, 37, of the 1400 block of South Canal Street in Chicago, was charged with felony armed violence with a dangerous weapon, felony unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, felony unlawful use of a weapon, possession of ammunition, felony manufacture and delivery of cannabis, misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor driving while revoked and also cited for driving without his headlights on and for no proof of insurance, police said in a release Wednesday.

It said that on April 1, shortly after midnight, officers on patrol in the 1500 block of Ridge Avenue in Evanston stopped Hogan for driving without his headlights on. The officers talked to Hogan, the only occupant of the vehicle, and returned to their patrol vehicle to check his driver’s license status, the release said.

It said that while the officers were continuing their investigation, Hogan fled from his vehicle on foot and officers gave chase. While fleeing, Hogan discarded a black sock before he was apprehended in the 1500 block of Oak Avenue, the release said. It said officers located the sock Hogan discarded and it contained a loaded 9 mm “ghost” handgun. “Ghost guns” are typically untraceable firearms that don’t have serial numbers, police said. Hogan was arrested and transported to the station.

Once Hogan was in custody, officers continued their investigation and searched Hogan’s vehicle where they recovered approximately 197 grams of cannabis, plastic baggies, an electronic scale, and a loaded extended 9 mm magazine. Hogan’s vehicle was towed and impounded pending seizure, the release said.

It said Hogan did not have a FOID card or a concealed carry license. Officers reviewed the investigation with the Cook County state’s attorney’s office. The State’s Attorney approved felony weapons charges.

Hogan was released on a $40,000 D bond and his next court date is May 2, at the Skokie Courthouse.
