An Aurora man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after he threatened his girlfriend with a knife and slapped her while demanding money for alcohol last year, officials said.

Robert T. Boatright, 37, was found guilty in February of attempted armed robbery, attempted robbery and domestic battery, officials with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release.

On June 7, 2022, Boatright returned around noon to his home on the 200 block of North Lincoln Avenue in Aurora and banged on the door and demanded to be let in, prosecutors said.

Once inside, he demanded his girlfriend give him money to buy alcohol, according to officials. She said she had no money to give him and went into the bedroom, according to the release.

Prosecutors said Boatright followed her, took her cellphone and shoes and then searched for her purse, but found no money inside.

Officials said Boatright then slapped her, causing a laceration to her nose, and threw her cellphone at her. He left the bedroom and returned with a knife with a four-inch blade and pointed it at her while again asking for money, prosecutors said.

Boatright receives credit for 301 days served in the Kane County jail and 125 days credit for participating in the Kane County Sheriff’s Office Lighthouse Recovery program, officials said.
