Naperville is one of the eight most beautiful cities in Illinois, according to the online geography resource WorldAtlas.
WorldAtlas described Naperville as a “picturesque municipality” that’s renowned for its “scenic exquisiteness, historic locales, and thriving downtown area.”
“The city is replete with numerous parks and trails, such as the Riverwalk, Centennial Beach and the Naperville Cemetery, providing a serene and tranquil environment for individuals to unwind and relax,” according to the website.
Besides historical landmarks like the Martin Mitchell Mansion at the Naper Settlement and the Millennium Carillon/Moser Tower in Rotary Park, which offers a sweeping panoramic vista of the city, WorldAtlas said the city offers an array of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues, rendering it a coveted destination for locals and tourists alike.
In his recent State of the City address, Mayor Steve Chirico said the Naperville City Council is investing money to continue to make the city an attractive community.
The city started a pilot program to add native plantings, and staff are installing new entrance signs along major roads, he said.
Sections of the Riverwalk west of Eagle Street will undergo improvements later this year to make the walkway more accessible for everyone, Chirico said.
The other eight cities, according to World Atlas, are Elgin, Evanston, Galena, Geneva, Oak Park, Rockford and Springfield.
Elgin was recognized for its “multifaceted attractions encompassing historic edifices, cultural diversity, and bountiful natural vistas.”
WorldAtlas said Elgin boasts an array of landmarks, such as the Elgin Public Museum of Natural History, the only natural history museum in the Fox Valley; and the Elgin Fire Barn No. 5 Museum, the second official landmark in the city.

Foodies also will enjoy Geneva’s downtown district with restaurants, cafes, and bars that cater to a variety of palates, according to WorldAtlas.
