The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office and law enforcement agencies will conduct a “no refusal” DUI patrol on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, officials said.
This marks the 32nd no-refusal event in Kane County since the state’s attorney’s office began the program in 2008.

During “no refusal” events, suspected intoxicated motorists can be compelled to provide a breath or blood sample through a warrant issued by a judge shortly after a traffic stop. Anyone declining to be tested after the warrant is obtained can face additional charges, officials said.
Assistant state’s attorneys will be on-call at various police departments in the county and a phlebotomist will be available as well who can perform blood draws.
“St. Patrick’s Day this year is on a Friday, which unfortunately means that more people are likely to take unnecessary risks,” Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser said in a statement.
Mosser said there are many alternatives to driving while impaired, such as designated drivers, taxis, Uber and Lyft.
