SHOOTING ARREST: Mark F. Eugene, 57, 20200 block of Augusta Drive, Olympia Fields, was arrested March 1 by the U.S. Marshall Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force in connection with a Jan. 30 shooting in the 200 block of Woodward Street, police said. Police said Eugene is acquainted with the victim. He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he remains in lieu of $5 million bond, charged with aggravated battery/discharge a firearm and two counts of being a felon illegally possessing a gun, according to Will County Circuit Court records online.
Chicago Ridge
DISORDERLY CONDUCT: A 41-year-old Tinley Park man was arrested for disorderly conduct March 1 at Mobil Gas, 10001 Ridgeland Ave., after he became upset at a customer who took his photo while working, police said. Surveillance video at the business showed Ahmed S. Alghazali, 8300 block of Waterford Drive, “followed the victim out of the business, banged on her window and kicked her tire,” police said.
Crete
TIP JAR THEFT: A 22-year-old Sauk Village man picked up a burglary charge and an upgraded felony charge after police said he stole the tip jar from a bar a few minutes after he was released from an earlier initial arrest, police said. Lindsey E. Freeman, 22100 block of Navaho Avenue, is charged with aggravated battery in a public place, burglary, retail theft and theft/less than $500, according to Will County Circuit Court records. On March 1, Freeman stole food from Crete Food and Liquor, 940 E. Steger Road, punching an employee while exiting, police said. Officers arrested Freeman at Steger and Volbrecht roads and then released Freeman on his personal recognizance at the police station, police said. Approximately 10 minutes later, Freeman stole a tip jar from Chuck’s Place, 1358 Main St., police said. The Will County state’s attorney’s office approved a felony burglary charge “and upgraded previous misdemeanor battery charge to felony battery,” police said. Freeman remained in the Will County Adult Detention Facility Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bond, according to Will County sheriff’s online records.
GUN CONVICTION: A 56-year-old Lynwood man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to the charge of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, according to Will County Circuit Court records online. Velar Mayfield III, 19800 block of Orchard Avenue, credited with 197 days served, was sentenced Feb. 16 after pleading guilty as part of negotiations that dropped the more serious charge of armed habitual criminal, a Class X felony, according to court records. Mayfield was arrested during a December 2017 traffic stop after an officer determined he had a loaded Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun, police said. “A criminal history check upon arrest indicated arrestee was a convicted felon,” police said. Mayfield remained in the Will County Adult Detention Facility Wednesday, according to sheriff’s records online.
Frankfort
ALLEGED SQUATTER: A real estate agent showing a vacant home in the 11600 block of Sapphire Court discovered an unexpected “resident” Saturday named Daeshawn D. Porter, 24, 11800 block of Laraway Road, Frankfort, police said. “It appeared Daeshawn was staying in the residence, as officers recovered a sleeping bag, pizza box with a receipt attached including his last name and phone number, backpack, as well as other personal items,” police said. Porter, who used a brick and a large rock to break two windows and gain access, also had spray-painted “numerous walls” inside the home, police said. “It is unknown how long he had been staying in the residence,” police said. Porter was booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility on a tentative charge of burglary and three counts of criminally damaging property, police said. Porter’s arrest came approximately one week after Frankfort police served him with a Will County warrant from a Feb. 11 incident charging him with assault and criminally damaging property, according to police and county court records online.
Homewood
BANK ROBBERY: A masked male displaying a handgun to tellers took cash from the US Bank, 18300 Dixie Highway, and then ran away around 1:30 p.m. Feb. 27, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the criminal investigations unit, 708-206-3420. No one was physically injured, police said.
ILLEGAL GUN: An officer who saw a 27-year-old man smoking marijuana in a parked car noticed something else during the routine pat-down, police said: a handgun in the man’s coat pocket. Jacquan Carradino of the 700 block of East 154th Street, was arrested and accused of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and being a convicted felon illegally possessing a weapon, police said.
Lockport
AGGRAVATED BATTERY: A 28-year-old Lockport man accused of battering an officer after stealing a car has been charged with aggravated battery, possessing a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest and criminally damaging property, according to Will County Circuit Court records online. David M. Gross, of the 600 block of 3rd Street, was taken into custody Feb. 2 in a residential backyard in the 500 block of 3rd Street after abandoning the 2021 Kia sedan he took from a Lockport gas station earlier in the day, police said. The owner had gone into the store, leaving the vehicle unlocked with the keys in it, police said. Officers later spotted Gross driving the vehicle and he abandoned it, but was later apprehended, police said. During his arrest, Gross “pulled away from an officer and threw the officer into the side of a house,” police said. They said the officer, a 40-year-old male, was taken to the emergency room for injuries to his shoulder, ribs, and hip.”
New Lenox
STANDOFF HEARING: A 34-year-old New Lenox-area man who was the subject of an hourslong standoff with Will County sheriff’s SWAT Unit and crisis negotiators is scheduled to appear in Will County Circuit Court March 16 for a preliminary hearing, according to court records online. Joshua D. James, 34, of the 15700 block of Maple Road in unincorporated New Lenox, is charged with being a felon illegally possessing a gun/third time, three counts of being a felon illegally possessing a gun and one count each of recklessly discharging a gun and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to court records online. James fired a rifle outside around 11:45 a.m. Feb. 18 and then reentered his home, prompting a 911 call, police said. Responding deputies established a perimeter around James’ home and evacuated five nearby homes, police said, noting James, “peacefully surrendered.” He remained in the Will County Adult Detention Facility Wednesday in lieu of $250,000 bond, according to sheriff’s records online.

Park Forest
GUN ARGUMENT: A 22-year-old Park Forest man’s disassembly of a handgun failed to defuse an argument that started outside the home, continued inside and then turned physical as it moved back outside, police said. Lashon M. Ward of the 100 block of Ash Street, arrested and accused of domestic battery shortly after the March 1 incident in that block, said he had disassembled the victim’s 9 mm pistol as a safety measure, police said.

JOY RIDE: A 2017 Hyundai Sonata sedan reported stolen from a Bloom Trail High School parking lot March 3 turned up in Lansing, with three juveniles taken into custody, police said.
