I’m calling about Brandon Johnson’s winning speech at the election in Chicago. Lori Lightfoot lost the election because people thought she was too divisive and confrontational and Johnson’s speech was totally inappropriate. Instead of pulling everybody together, which is what we need, he referred to our people, which I don’t know who that means. It was just very divisive and it was an attack on Paul Vallas when that was not the time or the place. Good luck to Vallas.

Buckle your seat belts, Chicago! Brandon Johnson’s opinion filled election night speech, heavy with questionable comments on front-runner Paul Vallas, revealed that this will be the nastiest mayoral campaign in the city’s history! He made it clear that he’ll sling mud. During her reelection bid, when Mayor Lightfoot made similar remarks about how Blacks should vote, she was widely criticized. Now Johnson is promoting a cleverly worded version of that same polarizing agenda!

So Mary Mitchell of the Sun-Times believes Lori Lightfoot should have gotten a second term. One might raise the question, why? Here’s a Black woman who not only slighted a white and Hispanic challenger, but also the remaining six Black contenders with her racist remark vote for me or don’t vote at all. No taking it back. She used up the entire race card deck in one easy swoop. What’s next for Lightfoot? Perhaps a greeter when Bally’s Casino opens up.

YCM, Orland Park

I am so happy to see that Lightfoot didn’t make the runoff. She was nothing but a mouth and cutting up people and saying she thought she could run everything. Let’s vote on the right person to run the city. You have two people. Remember the one thing with Brandon Johnson, the only thing I could say about him is quit raising taxes on suburbanites. They’re the ones that come in and spend money. That’s what the city needs, people to spend money there, not leaving because of all the robberies and killings.

Laws are separate for teens. Why? The tragic death of Don Carter is a great example of why they should change. The rash of car hijackings must be shown there are severe consequences with this crime other than a slap on the wrist. Face it, if a kid is old enough to commit hijackings and drive, adult penalties, especially if it causes death, should be given without thought of age.

Jim, everything you allege about the news media and Democrats could be said about those you support and where you think you get your news. I guess you have missed the billion dollar court case against Fox News by Dominion and soon Smartmatic. Recent court filings have revealed that they knowingly spread lies about the companies and knew it off air, but it was good for ratings. Find some real new sources and get the real news.

Paul, Tinley Park

To Bill from Plainfield and all your other avid Fox News Watchers. Well, what do you think of your glorious station now that Rupert Murdoch himself, the owner, has said that the people who have perpetuated this myth of a rigged election, even though they knew better, should be fired. I hope Dominion gets every cent of their billion dollar lawsuit against Fox News for making the false claims that Dominion had anything to do with the last election. Get over it, Fox watchers. Donald Trump lost bigly.

JK, Tinley Park

About the gun shop owner being indicted on charges of fraud. Boy, karma really does exist. He’s the guy who said he was devastated by the lack of being able to sell assault weapons. Thank God Will County is keeping an eye on these.

Peggy, Evergreen Park

Jack of Oak Forest is 100% wrong in claiming the “Dilbert” comic strip was dropped because the cartoons themselves were racist. The strips were dropped because of a racist tirade delivered by Scott Adams during his online video program. He referred to Black Americans as a hate group. This culminated a yearslong stream of increasingly right-wing and racist rants in various venues by Adams. He has been dropped by virtually every newspaper and by his distributor. These decisions were not made on a whim.

Josh Goldberg’s article on China lacks practicality. The U.S. needs strategic independence from China’s computer chip manufacturing. COVID-19 from China has taught us the importance of having North American supply chains, not overseas ones. Goldberg fails to see that as a one political party country, the Communist Party in China is China itself. You cannot take a hard line toward China and also have a friendly economic competition with China.

The ad on TV, Insure on the Spot, should be taken off. I’m saying this because the car is shown fishtailing the wheels and scribbles on the pavement from the many loops from the tires. I believe drivers that do this in parking lots call it drifting. The Insure ad seems to promote it. It is dangerous and they even do it on streets. You would think an insurance company would be against this sort of behavior. I suppose they think people will surely want insurance because there’s crazy drivers out there waiting to make you and your car a victim.

Hey, I recently turned 65. I guess it’s time for me to retire to Florida and deposit my brain at the door when I get there, become a Republican and vote for clowns like Ron DeSantis.

Mike, Bedford Park

Joan of Oak Forest, by your reasoning no one should be woke because one extremist has an off-the-wall idea. By the same reasoning, we should not have COVID-19 vaccines because one person said to drink bleach. And yes, many people have a problem with societal issues being addressed.
