History Makers honored at gala dinner
People with international resumes as well as those whose focus is squarely on the south suburbs were honored last weekend as the village of Matteson and Rich Township presented its History Maker Awards at a gala Saturday at Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor.
Along with former ambassador and U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, who was unable to attend the event, the awards were presented to fashion designer Barbara Bates, attorney Ron Bean, educators Blondean Davis and Yvonne Ardel Robinson, Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans, MWRD President Kari Steele and business owners Larry Huggins of Ritewa-Huggins Construction and Spencer Leak Sr. and Henrietta Leak of AR Leak Funeral Homes. Robinson, a longtime Park Forest resident, received the award posthumously.
The History Makers Awards Dinner is an annual part of the area’s celebration of Black History Month.
