Play about handkerchief

“Desdemona,” a play about a handkerchief, written by Paula Vogel, will be shown at 7:30 p.m., March 3 and 4 and at 2 p.m. March 5 at Three Brothers Theatre in Waukegan. The contemporary play, performed by the College of Lake County Theatre Department, features a Shakespearean character named Desdemona in a contemporary setting. Tickets: $8-$10. 221 N. Maple syrup hikes

Families can learn how and why trees make sap and how maple syrup is made from the sap at hourlong hikes scheduled every half-hour beginning at noon and ending at 2 p.m. on March 4 and 5 at Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods. More hikes are scheduled the next two weekends after that. Registration is required, and visitors must sign up for specific time slots. Roaring 20s dining, cocktails and dancing in Highwood

Celebrate Highwood kicks off is 2023 fundraising season with its annual with its annual Roaring 2020’s Jazzed Up Dining & Classical Cocktails from 7 to 11 p.m. on March 4 at the 29 Mile Distilling Company in Highwood. Guests are invited to wear “Great Gatsby” attire at the event featuring dinner, cocktails, swing dance performances and dancing to the Charleston. Orchestra performs music by Still and Rachmaninoff

The Waukegan Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Alexander Platt, performs at 4 p.m. March 5 in the Orlin D. Trapp Auditorium at Waukegan High School’s Brookside Campus. They symphony will perform William Grant Still’s “Symphony No. 1, Afro-American,” one of his most famous works. Still was the first African-American to conduct a major American symphony orchestra and the first to have a composition performed by a leading orchestra.
