We have been active members of the Naperville community for over 30 years. We have known Benny White, candidate for Naperville mayor, for six years while he served on the Naperville City Council.
Watching Benny in that role, it is evident what an extraordinary leader he is. No matter what issue comes before our community, he listens to all stakeholders before carefully and fairly weighing what’s best for the community. He’s always prepared and works towards resolution.
Above all else, Benny is a man of great integrity and compassion. He has unified our community during some of our most difficult times. He is calm, he doesn’t overreact, he is a true leader.
Benny was instrumental in getting our city’s mission statement changed to include “diversity.” We were in the council chambers when the new mission was read to include, “while creating an inclusive community that values diversity.” It was one of the most meaningful moments for our community.
A West Point graduate, Benny has served his country and held public office as an Indian Prairie District 204 School Board member before joining the Naperville City Council. He has the experience, leadership skills, strength, and vision to lead our great city forward as our newly elected mayor.
Please vote Benny White for mayor on or before April 4!

Students need to be educated on fixing the environment
I’m writing this to express my opinion on sustainable practices at my school, Naperville North High School, and how I believe schools everywhere should choose to implement ecologically friendly methods as well as be more informative on environmental issues.
It’s been proven that the Earth is suffering the impacts of climate change daily. While many places are working to reduce carbon emissions or even achieve carbon neutrality, negative changes to the environment are happening faster than they can be reversed.
Naperville North has some sustainable features, and I understand that becoming ecologically friendly and energy/water efficient is not cheap. Things like planting native plants in unused green space and installing solar panels work well. The school also has a garden and a courtyard so a compost bin would be a huge improvement.
Recycling is a touchy topic since most students are skeptical about the school’s recycling program because we only have one dumpster. By assuring students their waste is definitely recycled and teaching them about the plastics that can and can’t be recycled, the community and Earth could feel the benefits.
The way to combat this and get students and faculty on board and involved is to teach more information on this subject. It’s hard for change to happen when people aren’t familiar with or passionate about the issue. By including short lessons or pushing for research projects on environmental topics, students can increase their knowledge and hopefully join the fight against climate change.
As electric and induction stoves, window insulation, solar panels and permeable parking lots become more common, they will become more popular. By starting small at home and taking actions at schools and businesses, the community and Earth will be cleaner and healthier.
The way to reach coming generations is through education. Practicing energy conservation and water-saving techniques and adopting sustainable policies will make change happen fast and naturally.
