A woman jogging on the Fox River Trail in St. Charles Monday evening reported an unknown man groped her, police said.

The 47-year-old woman was jogging around 6:48 p.m. near the 300 block of South Riverside Avenue, just south of the Illinois Street Bridge, St. Charles police said in a news release. The woman was jogging as part of a group, and the others were ahead of her, according to the release.

The woman said she heard someone quickly approaching from behind and the person then put his arms around her shoulders and grabbed her chest and abdomen, officials said.

She screamed and the man ran westbound across a pedestrian bridge, near Indiana Street, according to the release. He was last seen running north on First Street toward Illinois Street.

The man was described as thin and approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall, police said. He was seen wearing a gray or dark camouflage winter coat and dark pants.

St. Charles patrol officers and detectives are actively investigating the crime, according to the release. They are asking anyone with information to call police at 630-377-4435.
