Bed Bath & Beyond to close Chicago Ridge store
Bed Bath & Beyond, the struggling retailer that is trying desperately to avoid bankruptcy, announced more store closings earlier this month that includes the Chicago Ridge store at 9650 S. Ridgeland Ave.
The Chicago Ridge closing was part of a new round of 87 store closings that comes just a few months after the chain said it planned to close 150 locations.
A liquidation sale will begin soon, but no date was announced.
New to the list of closings, in addition to the Chicago Ridge store, are locations in Wilmette, Geneva, Crystal Lake and Forest Park.
The retailer avoided bankruptcy last week after it was able to arrange new financing in a last-ditch attempt to remain in business.

University of Chicago opens Homewood urgent care
The University of Chicago Medicine is now offering walk-in urgent care services at its Homewood location at 17805 S. Halsted.
UChicago Medicine Medical Group — Homewood added urgent care services on Jan. 17. The center had been providing primary care and family medicine.
Physicians will be available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends and all major federal holidays.
The Homewood site is the first of several new urgent care locations the Hyde Park-based health system plans to operate in Chicago and the suburbs this year.
The Homewood urgent care clinic will offer care for everything from headaches, nausea, and upper respiratory infections to sprains and fractures. It will also offer point-of-care lab testing. Insurance is accepted or patients have the option to self-pay for care. No appointments are necessary.
“We don’t want urgent care to replace your primary care physician or occupational medicine,” said medical director Anwar Isabell, who will also be one of several physicians at the location. “It will serve as the in-between so that you are able to follow up with a primary care physician or specialist.”
The urgent care services are different from UChicago Medicine at Ingalls — Flossmoor, which offers “urgent aid” treatment for more serious injuries and illnesses that require immediate care. It operates as an extension of the emergency department at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey.
