
Two women were treated for smoke inhalation after a house fire Jan. 31 on the city’s West Side, officials said Tuesday.
Aurora firefighters responded to a structure fire around 11:32 p.m. in the 100 block of Woodlawn Avenue, Aurora Fire Department officials said in a news release. Upon arrival, firefighters found a two-story single-family house that was divided into two apartment units with smoke and fire showing from the attic.
The two women, ages 27 and 28, were able to exit their apartment, but were taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation, according to the release.
The women told fire crews their cat was still inside the unit.

Firefighters began to extinguish the fire while other crews searched and found the cat, which had no injuries, officials said.
The residents of the first-floor unit at the house were out of town at the time of the fire, according to the release.
The building was deemed uninhabitable and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Aurora Fire Department officials said.
