A safety concern over a four-way intersection found to have no traffic control signs or devices led Naperville workers to investigate whether there were similar street crossings around the city.
There were, and now the Transportation Advisory Board is recommending stop signs be placed at 14 locations.
City project manager Mark Prousa said a recent board meeting that the 14 intersections identified are where a side street meets a busier arterial, collector or neighborhood connector street.
The Illinois Vehicle Code allows local authorities to give preference to through streets by establishing stop controls on intersecting side streets.
When board member James Webb asked why the city hadn’t placed stop signs at the locations previously, Deputy City Engineer Andy Hynes said many of the intersections are where two cul-de-sacs intersect with a through street and where the determination for which vehicle should yield is generally understood.
Adding stop signs, Hynes said, will clarify which motorist would have the right of way so there’s no confusion.
The 14 intersections include a two-way stop on:
Winola Court for River Oak Drive,
Cliffside Court for River Oak Drive,
Deerpath Court for River Oak Drive,
Paddock Court/Sprucewood Court for Canyon Run Road,
Treeline Court/Whitespire Court for Harlowe Lane,
English Court/Bards Avenue for Ashbury Drive,
Kentuck Court/Popple Court for Thatcher Drive,
Challdon Court/Dark Star Road for Charles Avenue,
Banbury Circle/Whitingham Circle for Edward Road,
Mount Vernon Court/Fairwinds Court for Monticello Drive,
Braemar Avenue for Brentford Drive,
Castilleja Court/Chicory Court for Sequoia Road,
More Top Picks Planters Indoor
Wildflower Court/Wildflower Circle for Feldott Lane,
Encina Drive for Whispering Hills Drive.
The recommendation will go to the Naperville City Council for adoption at a future meeting.
