State Sen. Dan McConchie, R-Hawthorn Woods, is collecting Valentine’s Day cards as part of his annual “Valentines for Seniors” program, looking to help uplift seniors’ spirits in his district, according to a news release from his office announcing the drive.

The collection runs through Feb. 7, according to the release.

“I want to ensure that our seniors are not forgotten this Valentine’s Day,” McConchie said in the release.

He encourages churches, schools and community members of the 26th Senate District to write Valentine’s Day cards, which may be dropped off or mailed to his district office, the release states.

McConchie stated in the release that participants should be creative with their cards — which may include handmade creations — and he encourages uplifting notes, drawings or other sentiments.

“There’s no doubt that those living in long-term care facilities have had a difficult few years and we should remind them that they are cared for and that people are thinking of them,” he said in the release.

Once all the cards have been collected, they will be delivered personally to the various long-term care facilities in state leader’s district, the release states.

The 26th District includes all or part of Algonquin, Barrington, Carpentersville, Cary, Crystal Lake, Deer Park, Fox River Grove, Green Oaks, Hawthorn Woods, Hoffman Estates, Island Lake, Kildeer, Lake in the Hills, Lake Zurich, Libertyville, Long Grove, Mundelein, Oakwood Hills and Vernon Hills.

“This is just a small way that we can spread a little love and joy to those throughout our communities,” McConchie said in the release.

Officials noted in the release that Senate Republican caucus members collected and delivered more than 45,000 Valentine’s cards in 2022.

People who want to participate in McConchie’s Valentines for Seniors program may mail their cards to, or drop them off at, state Sen. Dan McConchie’s Office, 795 Ela Road, Suite 208, Lake Zurich, IL 60047.

Cards being delivered in person should be placed in the marked mailbox on the 2nd floor outside the Lake Zurich office door, the release states.
