An Elgin man and a teen were arrested on weapons charges after one allegedly fired a gun into air during an argument and the other fired a gun at a vehicle, Elgin police said.

The incident occurred about 3:25 p.m. Dec. 29 in the 500 block of Lavoie Avenue, a police department Facebook post said.

Two groups of people, one on the sidewalk and the other in a car, were arguing when the suspect in the car discharged his gun into the air, prompting the other to fire at the car, the report said.

Steven Andrade, 18, of the 300 block of Wellington Avenue, was charged by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office with reckless discharge of a firearm, mob action, possession of a firearm without an FOID and possession of ammunition without an FOID. The first two counts are class 4 felonies.

The 16-year-old juvenile faces charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a weapon, all of which are felonies.

Andrade was released on his own recognizance during a bond hearing, the post said. The teen was taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
