A four-bedroom, 3,430-square-foot Victorian-style house in Evanston that was built in 1869 sold on Thursday for $950,000.

Situated on a corner lot a block north of Calvary Catholic Cemetery, the center-entry home in south Evanston has three bathrooms, two fireplaces, 10-foot ceilings, central air conditioning and a three-car garage. A new roof was installed in 2022.

The sellers had lived in the house for 51 years. They first listed the home in October for $999,000, and they never budged on their asking price. They went under contract to sell on Dec. 10 and had a quick closing afterward.

The house “contains architectural gems not regularly found in this day and age,” listing agent Kim Ferrer of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, who co-listed the home with Brandy Isaac, told Elite Street. The house is “a spacious double-entry Victorian with a grand marble fireplace and cast iron cover, a curving mahogany banister perfectly located in the center of the home, high ceilings throughout the first and second floors, beautiful brass decorative doorknobs, and an overall amazing layout. It’s no wonder the owners lived there for 51 years.”

Public records do not yet identify the buyers.

The house had a $24,391 property tax bill in the 2021 tax year.
