Now it is official that the Jan. 6 Committee has sent referrals to the Department of Justice on Donald Trump for obstruction of an official proceeding and conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to make a false statement and to incite, assist, or aid or comfort an insurrection. These are all federal crimes. Can’t wait to hear the MAGA minions say how Joe Biden’s Justice Department is going to put these fake charges on Trump. Maybe once he is indicted and serves time, the MAGA crazies will finally get it.

He called the members of the Jan. 6 Committee thugs and scoundrels, but on that date almost two years ago he called the mob who attacked our Capitol and what it represents patriots and special, and professed his love for them.

I was going to ask if the audit on Trump’s taxes had ever been completed but it turns out the IRS just admitted that there was never an audit going on in the first place. So despite the fact that the Washington Post said that Trump lied 30,573 times while in office, turns out the real number is 30,574. Who knew?

Well, every elected president since Richard Nixon has released their tax returns except for one. Can you all guess who that is? Of course, but hallelujah, Donald Trump’s tax returns are finally being turned over to Congress. Can’t wait to see what’s in them. With how hard he fought to keep them secret this ought to be really interesting.

Tom from Burbank, Trump got a fair trial just like he has given other people fair trials. He is for himself and always will be. He didn’t get spanked enough when he was a child. He always had the silver spoon in his mouth. You and your MAGA friends can buy his digital cards for $99 a piece. Wake up. Trump will never be president again unless he has his own little island where he can be dictator and only have MAGA people on his island. But keep giving him $99 because he will keep it for himself.

Thank you to the Oak Lawn Village workers who each year set up the festive Village Green every year. I walk up there several times a week to enjoy the Christmas lights and displays. We appreciate the creative effort.

The White Sox, if you go to spring training with a motive, make an effort to learn how to bunt and improve fielding. Games lost last year because of your poor effort. They need a manager who should hold everyone responsible. No prima donnas. It’s not what you can do for yourself, it’s what you can do for the team to win. Pitchers are pulled out of a game because of the pitch count. Half the time, it’s not necessary. A good manager is one that can think for himself. A good pitcher knows if he’s losing it or if he’s still got something in the tank. Don’t over manage.

Perhaps BJ should look into that MBA after all. Even if Walmart/Target gets to write off losses for theft, they have other costs in handling and inventory that aren’t written off. They get no profit that they would from sale of the item and the government gets no taxes. Insurance rates and other costs may increase resulting in higher prices. Theft is not a victimless crime even from large corporations.

Lori Lightfoot has gotten a jump on all the other mayoral candidates by running expensive, well-produced TV ads. In one ad, she sheds tears and talks of growing up with three siblings. That ad inadvertently provides a sad reminder about surviving siblings, and other family members, of 836 people murdered in Chicago in 2021. By mid-December, the city’s 2022 murder total reached 672. The latest victims included students shot right outside their high school. Has the mayor ever shed a tear about surviving siblings of these victims?

The front page of the Dec. 19 Sun-Times in bold print says Justin Fields sparkles. I can’t believe that for all these years, I thought football was a team sport. I guess not in Chicago. Fields runs so well, maybe he should run for mayor of Chicago. I still think that’s a solo job. Keep running, Fields, but remember that only one team in the NFL has a worse record.

Contributors have been writing about the gas and milk prices. What’s high is the over the counter medicine prices. At Walgreens, a little bottle of Afrin nose spray is $9.99. A regular bottle of Robitussin is $15.99. Halls cough drops is $6.99 for 80 drops. Nyquil is $10.99. Mucinex is $16.99. Coupons and deals only help so much. Often times, they’re downright insulting. One coupon I saw was a measly 50 cents off a bottle of medicine that is $12 in most stores. What a savings!

A one half page ad in Wednesday’s Tribune by the Greater Chicago Food Depository showed a young girl with the headline stating one in four children is facing hunger. This is a tragedy in a wealthy country like ours, especially since most employers are seeking additional help. Where are the parents of these young people that are facing hunger? Why are they not working, feeding and supporting their children? Additional burdens and guilt are being placed on the rest of us by irresponsible parents that choose not to take care of one in four children.
