An Elgin man has been charged with stabbing his brother to death Saturday in the Elgin home they shared, according to charges filed by the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office.
No details were provided as to what led Juan F. Hernandez, 44, to allegedly stab 33-year-old Gerardo Hernandez multiple times in their residence in the 700 block of Preston Avenue.
Juan Hernandez was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count each of armed violence and aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm, a release from the State’s Attorney’s Office and the Elgin Police Department said.
Gerardo Hernandez’s body was discovered Sunday morning after police received a call asking that a check on his wellbeing be made, police said in a Facebook post.
After his identity was released by the Kane County Coroner’s Office, police confirmed the attack was believed to be a domestic incident.

Juan Hernandez is being held in the Kane County jail in lieu of $1 million bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 5.
Elgin police Chief Ana Lalley, speaking in the release, acknowledged the help police received from “community members who provided information and quickly contacted us when something looked out of place. It was integral to the outcome of the investigation and we are very thankful for their assistance.”
