From a photo of a bombed-out church to a lighter image of a girl cradling a kitten to an almost playful photo of children waking up in a dorm-style setting, several artists and photographers are collaborating to raise money for Ukrainian orphans though a Skokie art exhibition, according to a local arts organization.

A free reception for the “Here Comes the Sun, Artists Support Orphans in Ukraine” exhibit organized by Anatomically Correct Arts will be held Sunday, Dec. 18 from noon to 2 p.m. at Devonshire Cultural Center, 4400 Greenwood St., Skokie.

The free exhibit is also open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., through Jan. 21.

“Kyiv” by Vera Blansh is part of the Here Comes the Sun exhibit by Anatomically Correct Arts in Skokie. The artists and photographers involved are supporting orphans at the City of Goodness Orphanage in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.

Many of the photographers made photos of Ukrainian children fleeing the country, at train stations and refugee centers, their pastel-colored clothing and toddler faces contrasting with the urgency of the situation around them.

Ukrainian photographers Vera Blansh, Yuliya Bulgakova, Andriy Dubchak, Maks Levin, Grzegorz Litynski, Ruslan Lytvyn, and Anatolii Stepanov included photos in the exhibit, which also has paintings and mixed media images of sunflowers by American artists.

According to Anatomically Correct Arts, donations from sales of artwork and funds collected will go to the City of Goodness Orphanage in Chernivtsi, Ukraine.
