Ten people will be vying for four Elgin City Council seats and two for mayor when the city’s consolidated election is held in April.
Candidates had until Monday to file their nominating petitions to be placed on the ballot.
Those seeking council seats are Anthony Ortiz, Diana Alfaro, F. John Steffen, Rose Martinez, Karin Jones, Christina “Tia” Aagesen, Ismael Cordova, Marcus E. Banner, Tish Powell and Mark Smith.
Steffen, Martinez and Powell are incumbents seeking new terms. Councilman Toby Shaw decided not to run again.
Dixon will be facing incumbent Mayor Dave Kaptain for the city’s top job.
In order to determine ballot placement for the first six candidates listed above, who filed simultaneously on the first day, and the last two, who filed at the end of the day Monday, a lottery will be held Thursday by City Clerk Kim Dewis. The other candidates will be on the ballot based on the time they submitted their nominating papers.
