Those contacted by the scam were left a voicemail giving them instruction to call Levy at 847-766-9259 about the warrant. The scam is not associated with EPD, according to EPD Sergeant Ryan Glew.
Glew said the department is addressing the situation by raising awareness to prevent residents from falling victim to the scam. Glew said at last count there are no known victims but several residents have called the scam in.
He said people should never give out passwords, personal or financial information over the phone. Glew also said if someone does fall victim to the scam, EPD will take a report and investigate it further but it is difficult to track these scams.
