A 22-year-old Elgin man was killed and another man critically injured early Saturday morning in a head-on crash on Plank Road in unincorporated Plato Township, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said.

The collision occurred about 12:50 a.m. west of Marshall Road when Harvy S. Barrios attempted to pass another car in a no-passing zone on eastbound Plank Road and struck a westbound car, a sheriff’s office report said.

Barrios was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, 21-year-old Jaqueline Aldape-Heredia of Glendale Heights, was taken to the same hospital for treatment non-life-threatening injuries, the report said.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck, Zabryan T. Dumas, 31, of Sycamore, was also taken to St. Joseph, where he’s being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Plank Road from Bahr to Marshall roads was closed until 6:15 a.m. so the accident scene could be analyzed. It’s not know if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash and no tickets have been issued, the report said.
