After a contentious Lincolnwood Public Library board meeting Oct. 24, Lincolnwood Public Library Director Josephine Tucci said Oct. 25 the library did not own a copy of “The Bare Naked Book,” a 36-page picture book, but the following day, another library administrator said the facility owns the book, but it was marked “missing.”
Library Deputy Director Chris Renkosiak told the Tribune/Pioneer Press that Tucci’s original statement had been based on a misreading of the library’s catalog.
Tucci said there is occasional confusion over whether the library owns titles because the institution is part of a library consortium that shares materials.
“Even if we don’t own a copy of the book, because we are in a consortium, oftentimes it’s a little confusing when you’re looking for something and it’ll say it’s in the system but sometimes you’ll have to dig a little deeper,” she said.

Tucci said the book is currentlyundergoing repairs. When it is repaired and back in circulation, she said readers can locate it in the Early Reader Nonfiction section of the library.
More than 60 people attended the library board’s Oct. 24 meeting. Some who spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting asked that the library reconsider its placement and display of books discussing gender and sexuality. A member of the audience began shouting, leading more attendees to shout, and library board members shut down the meeting and asked police to disperse attendees from the meeting room, according to previous reporting.
“The Bare Naked Book” was first published in 1986.
