A 78-year-old Glencoe resident was killed Saturday morning when her car slammed into a downtown nail salon, according to the public safety department.
Nena Addis of Glencoe died Oct. 29 when her 2001 Mercedes-Benz SL was going northbound on Green Bay Road but the car turned west and smashed into the Bien Assorti nail salon at 710 Green Bay Road.
“She was going north and she drove around a group of cars that were stopped and at some point she veered to the west and she struck the planter and into the side of the building,” Deputy Public Safety Director Andrew Perley said. “We don’t know why.”
Addis was transported to Evanston Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A Cook County medical examiner’s office spokeswoman confirmed late Monday that Addis died of multiple injuries as a result of the crash.
The spokeswoman added toxicology tests would take about four to six weeks to complete.
Song Yun, the owner of Bien Assorti for 13 years, described what he saw.
“Suddenly the car hit the window,” Yun said. “It was very scary. This is the first time in my store that anything like this happened.”
He added a window, customized furniture and tiles were damaged, and is waiting to see if they have to be replaced.
Perley said one other person inside the salon was taken to Evanston Hospital with minor injuries. Two others were evaluated at the scene but they said they did not require medical assistance.
Perley noted more people could have been seriously hurt.
“We are lucky she did not go through the building,” he said.
The Glencoe Public Safety Department is investigating the incident with the Major Crash Assistance Team and the medical examiner’s office.
