
Elmhurst police and other agencies are investigating the death Monday afternoon of a woman hit by an eastbound BNSF Line Metra train west of the Elmhurst station.
According to an Elmhurst Police Department Facebook post, Elmhurst police and fire personnel responded at about 1:14 p.m. Monday to a report of a pedestrian hit by a train between Myrtle Avenue and Prospect Avenue in the west suburb. The train was headed downtown to the Union Station depot.
According to police, evidence at the scene indicates the victim is a 21-year old Warrenville woman who was a student at Elmhurst University.
No one else was injured in the incident, authorities explained.
Elmhurst police continue to investigate the incident, along with the Metra Police Department and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office. Anyone with information about the matter is asked to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at (630) 530-3050.
A senior officer with the Elmhurst Police Department called the incident a tragedy for all involved, including the Elmhurst University community, and reminded the public that help is available 24 hours a day by calling the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
