The baiduhai is thrilled to announce that Adriana Perez has joined the emerging news desk as a general assignment reporter after a successful internship this summer. She began her new role Oct. 16.

As an intern, Adriana was integral to the emerging news team covering breaking news, including the mass shooting in Highland Park. But in between breaking news, Adriana also strung together touching feature stories, including a story on the Morton Arboretum’s role in the discovery of a nearly extinct oak tree, a profile of a paddleboarder with Ramsay Hunt syndrome who crossed Lake Michigan, the tale of an unlikely friendship between a pizza delivery driver and the man who robbed him, and the perseverance of drag queens in the face of increased hostility

.

Adriana graduated from the University of Notre Dame in May, where she studied political science and journalism and served as the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The Observer, during her last year. She had previously worked as a news writer, podcast co-host, archives researcher and social media strategist for the paper.

In the summer of 2021, Adriana interned at the Dallas Morning News as a metro reporting intern for the newspaper’s Spanish language publication, Al Dia Dallas. She reported and wrote in both Spanish and English for the communities of North Texas, focusing her stories through a service journalism lens.
