The quick summer spread of the once rare monkeypox virus jolted Chicago health officials and community leaders into action. Fortunately, the illness’ case counts that rose fast have now fallen fast.

But even as the city’s weekly positive cases drop to numbers not seen since June, the officials responding to monkeypox agree: The virus’s spread isn’t over yet.

Chicago Marathon 2022: Route, tips for spectators and participants — and how to drive downtown (or avoid it) on race day

Inside a cavernous warehouse in Rockford, behind three sets of locked doors, hundreds of tiny cannabis seedlings grow. They are the initial crop cultivated in Illinois by Star Buds, which on Monday became the first licensed predominantly Black-owned cannabis business and the first craft grower to open its doors in the state. The Arlington Heights Village Board Monday unanimously rejected a proposed referendum to prohibit public subsidies for a proposed Bears stadium development or any other private enterprise. Read more here.
