A man accused of trying to kidnap a woman in the West Loop Sunday and pouring urine over another woman’s head on a Red Line platform only minutes later was ordered held on $500,000 bond, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Quavon Ewing, 32, was charged with attempted kidnapping and two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, according to court records.

Ewing appeared before Judge Maryam Ahmad, who set bail during a hearing that was livestreamed on YouTube.

Additionally, Ewing, of the 5300 block of South Marshfield Avenue, had been released on a personal recognizance bond after a court appearance a day before the attacks for allegedly failing to register as a sex offender, court records show.

In court Wednesday, Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Anne McCord Rodgers didn’t offer a motive, but noted Ewing’s alleged crime spree spanned less than one hour and targeted three women: 36, 45 and 25.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. first victim was in the 100 block of West Roosevelt Road on her way to the gym when she saw Ewing standing by a maroon van urinating and possibly exposing himself and she tried to avoid eye contact with him, McCord Rodgers said.

She walked past Ewing, who was about 3 feet away, he tried to talk to her but she could not hear him because she was listening to an audio book, said McCord Rodgers. Ewing moved closer to her, put his hands, on her shoulder and pulled her into a “bear hug” while he was moaning and calling her “baby,” McCord Rodgers said.

That’s when the victim began to hit Ewing with a cellphone in her hand and he let her go after she bit him in the neck. He fled in the maroon van and the woman went to a nearby store to call 911, McCord Rodgers said.

Moments later, at 8:45 a.m., a 45-year-old woman was walking home from a Starbucks run when she noticed Ewing was walking next to her.

She didn’t think much of it until he began to walk faster and abruptly got in front of her, grabbed her by the shoulders with his hands and “proceeded to attempt to take her inside a maroon van,” McCord Rodgers said.

At that point, she began screaming “very loud” and Ewing started punching her in the head. She was trying to stay out of the van and he was pulling “so hard on the side of the van that she pulled some of the protective cover of the van,” McCord Rodgers said.

The struggle lasted about one minute until a passerby heard her yelling, confronted Ewing, who grabbed an “unknown object” from his van, threatened the witness and sped off in the van, McCord Rodgers said.

The third attack happened at 9:03 a.m. when Ewing was captured on CTA surveillance camera urinating inside a cup while at the platform of the train near the 600 block of South State Street, McCord Rodgers said.

Moments later, a woman walked down the stairs to get into the Blue Line station and Ewing was coming out at the same time. As they passed, Ewing poured the urine on her, covering her hair, face, and purse.

Before leaving the scene, he told her that “she deserved it,” according to McCord Rodgers.

Ewing is due back in court on Oct. 19.
