District 228 students receive national recognition

More than 20 Bremen High School District 228 students have earned academic honors from the College Board National Recognition Programs.

These programs grant underrepresented students with academic honors that can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process.

Oak Forest High School’s Karla Pintor, Kathrine Zavala, Luana Porto, Mia Nutile and Nathan Powers earned a National Hispanic Recognition Award. Student Abdulgafahr Lawal earned a National African American Recognition Award.

Bremen High School’s Michael Julien and Talea Carter were selected for the National African American Recognition Award. Celeste Cisneros, Gerardo Mondragon, Noe Rangel and RJ Castaneda were selected for the National Hispanic Recognition Award.

Tinley Park High School’s Anthony Andrews, Carl Penson, Dinah Hall, Gerges Ibrahim and Oneil Tucker received National African American Recognition Awards. Students Charlotte Feliz and Julian Rosiles received National Hispanic Recognition Awards.

Hillcrest High School’s Layla Alexander and Jeremiah Hall both received National African American Recognition Awards.

“This recognition means so much to me, considering the amount of effort I’ve put toward AP over the last few years,” Hall said. “I am extremely honored and appreciate every bit of recognition from the College Board. I’m planning on going to college next fall, so I know these opportunities will make my academic transition smoother.”

Students will receive their awards in time to include them on their college and scholarship applications.

Evergreen Park recognizes AP scholars

Current students at Evergreen Park Community High School, as well as several members of the Class of 2022, were recently recognized as AP Scholars by the College Board.

The College Board recognized 37 current Evergreen Park Community High School students and graduates as AP Scholars.

Students who received scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams (AP Scholars) are 2022 graduates Dane Bik, Caroline Duffy, Jacob Dwyer, Julian Flannigan, Natalie Galindo, Soriya Holloway, Tyler Kirts, Yuliana Lopez, Zachary Meyer, Cristina Ocampo, Cathleen Rech, Connor Rinearson, Madelyn Schaffrath, Leah Thomas and Annel Valencia; current seniors Leo Cassidy, Katharine Downey-McGurk, Brendan Farrell, Noah Flores, Jamia Head, and Kaitlyn Higgins; current juniors Theresa Brady, Matthew Dever, Owen Doogan, Michael Joyce, Kai Odom, Andrew Perez, Rachel Thomas, Jack VonBank and Taylor Yeaman.

Students who received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more on those exams (AP Scholar with Honor) are 2022 graduates April Kirtz, Isabella Martinez and Denisa Neda; and current senior Helen Joyce.

The students who received an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more on these exams (AP Scholar with Distinction) is 2022 graduates John Bledsoe, Thomas Gricus and Meghan Valentino.
