Downtown needs help: To the DNA of Elgin — where is the retail you supposedly were going to bring in to the downtown? We have a truly beautiful renovated riverfront. Do more to get more people there. And, a touchy subject, but please, the homeless have taken over a lot of the downtown area. When will that be addressed better?

Coombs bridge not done: I’m curious, is Coombs Road between Highland Avenue and Big Timber Road ever going to reopen in my lifetime? It seems the rebuilding of that bridge is taking longer than digging the Panama Canal!

Party loyalty bad for nation: When reviewing the minds of politicians, you’ll find a disturbing fact that is called party loyalty. What this means to the voter is you can’t trust that they will pass or defeat legislation that reflects what is good for the nation. How often have you seen bipartisan legislation?

GOP a lot like the Confederacy: There are way too many people that can’t understand that Trump’s MAGA Republicans are similar to Jefferson Davis’ Confederacy trying to destroy and divide the United States. A difference is Trump and his followers are driving for personal dictator power for Trump, and Davis and his Confederates were driving for ideology and continued slavery. We had a true Republican in Abe Lincoln to save the union then, and non-MAGA Republicans and Democrats to save it now.

Here’s my request: The story on the group of 50 Venezuelans who were flown to Martha’s Vineyard, after entering the U.S. through our open border in Texas gave me an idea. The immigrants said they were misled and boarded flights because they thought they were being transported to Boston. Now that we know we can state where we’d like to go after coming through Texas, I’d like to take our family there so we can state our desire to be relocated to Phoenix, specifically to a pleasant suburb such as Tempe.

I need more than this: Former Pope John Paul is on the way to sainthood. He has been beatified and now he is awaiting canonization. Two miracles have to be proved to have been performed by him. What disturbs me is these so-called miracles always involve curing a disease. Why not something else? In Matthew, Jesus says nothing is impossible, if you have enough faith you can move mountains. I will renounce my atheism and become a Christian if any Christian can move a mountain and I can see it done.
